Adapted from the Emilie Richards novel "Duncan's Lady" the story follows Duncan Sinclair, who reluctantly returns home with his young daughter to Puhoi, New Zealand, to negotiate with his estranged mother over the sale of the now dilapidated family hotel. Upon meeting the unconventional new local doctor Mara Turner, Duncan's view of the old small town softens, and he is forced to confront his painful past.

When Stan (Owen Black) enters the small country town Netherwood and unwittingly inherits a prime piece of land coveted by a local wealthy landowner, what ensues is a conflict over land, driven by a primal battle between men for power and dominance.

Tom was commissioned by the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra to compose a 6 minute score for the innovative new short film competition CUT TO: MUSIC in which filmmakers were then required to create a film to fit the music.



The winning film Eden (below) was screened onstage during a concert at Auckland’s Aotea Centre in July 2008, and the orchestra performed the score live to picture – led by visiting Australian conductor Brett Kelly.
